Our featured artist Paula John-Jules was born a twin
in London to a large family with 7 brothers and sisters.
Sadly, her father died when she was only 2 years old.
This started a deep yearning to find him spiritually.
She started painting whilst in art therapy following a
period of depression, which haunted her for many
years. She learned a way to channel her feelings
through colour, art and painting in particular. It was
a way to communicate her inner thoughts and
feelings which she found best expressed in a visual
way. As a child she was fascinated by colours in and
around nature. Surreal places, hiding places,
secret places to think. Her own daughter, Sky, is a
constant source of inspiration.
Her images are abstract, moods. colours, feelings.
The use of mixed media create interesting depths
and textures, vibrant, deep, rich and abounding with
moods, vivacity, temperament. Colour alone is subject
enough. Paula believes colour 'directly influences the
soul' and her pictures are the visual equivalent of a
psychological experience.
"the most thoughtful minds are those which love colour
the most" (John Rushkin 19th Century British Art Theorist)
